Fully Automatic Dry Mortar Production Line in Cambodia, Tailored for Southeast Asia’s Medium & Small Infrastructure Mark
1. Project Background: Accelerated Infrastructure Construction in Cambodia Creates Strong Demand for Local Mortar Capacity Upgrade
Cambodia’s construction industry has maintained steady growth in recent years. Residential buildings, commercial complexes, municipal roads and industrial parks in core cities including Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville are under continuous development. Projects such as interior decoration tiling, exterior wall plastering, wall leveling and waterproof repair keep driving up the demand for dry mortar, tile adhesive, interior & exterior wall putty and thermal insulation mortar.
Compared with large-scale building material enterprises in Indonesia, local mortar manufacturers in Cambodia are mostly small and medium-sized players. The industry still relies heavily on outdated and simple production equipment. Manual batching and mixing are common practices, resulting in low output and inconsistent finished product quality. High-grade engineering mortar is largely imported at high cost with unstable lead times. Meanwhile, standardized factories are scarce in Cambodia; most workshops have low ceilings. Skilled technical workers are in short supply locally, making traditional high-tower vertical mortar production lines impossible to install. This has become a major bottleneck restricting local building material manufacturers from expanding production and boosting profits.
The Cambodia client has long been engaged in local building material sales and engineering supporting services, with stable channel resources for construction sites. As market competition intensifies, low-margin bulk mortar business faces severe price pressure. The client decided to phase out outdated manual production lines and upgrade to compact, easy-to-install and easy-to-operate automated production equipment that fits their existing workshop conditions. The goal is to produce high-quality finished mortar and capture mid-tier engineering and home improvement markets. After comparing multiple equipment suppliers from home and abroad, the client finally selected our customized integrated dry mortar production line solution.
2. Client’s Core Pain Points & Project Requirements
Taking into account Cambodia’s tropical monsoon climate, factory site constraints, local labor conditions and market environment, we sorted out four major pain points and formulated targeted customized solutions:
- Restricted workshop conditions, incompatible with large equipment: The client’s factory is a typical low-rise steel structure workshop in Cambodia with limited height and floor space. Conventional high-tower vertical production lines require high building height and large land area and cannot be installed on-site. The client needed compact modular production equipment.
- Harsh tropical working conditions leading to frequent equipment failure: Cambodia features year-round high temperature and humidity, concentrated rainy seasons and strong monsoon winds. Simple equipment suffers from easy material caking and hopper blockage. Steel frames and conveying components are prone to corrosion. High-position equipment may vibrate and shift under strong winds, shortening service life and increasing downtime.
- Low automation, high labor cost and material waste: The original production line adopted fully manual batching, mixing and bagging. Large batching errors caused unstable bonding strength and flatness of finished mortar, disqualifying products from bids for formal real estate and municipal projects. In addition, lack of skilled workers limited overall production efficiency.
- Weak environmental control, hidden operational risks: Traditional open production generates heavy dust, harming operators’ health. Cambodia’s environmental regulations for building materials have become increasingly stringent, bringing potential shutdown risks. Moreover, extensive production could not support the client to build its own brand and trapped the company in low-price competition.
Based on the above challenges, the client required a compact modular, low-height, moisture & wind resistant, easy-operation and low-dust automatic mortar production line. The system should support multi-grade mortar production, stable quality and low operation & maintenance cost, adapting to medium and small workshops and local working conditions in Cambodia.
3. Customized Solution: Precise Optimization for Local Cambodian Working Conditions
Considering the differentiated market characteristics of Cambodia, we abandoned the general large-scale production line solution. We designed a customized medium & small fully automatic dry mortar production line from site adaptation, climate optimization, operation convenience, cost control and overseas service, solving all the client’s pain points.
3.1 Compact Modular Layout to Adapt to Low-ceiling Workshops
We adopted a stepwise modular layout. It does not require a high workshop or large land area, greatly reducing the overall height and footprint of equipment. The solution perfectly matches the client’s existing low-rise steel workshop, without factory reconstruction or new land investment, which saves huge capital expenditure. The whole production line has a reasonable workflow, covering feeding, mixing, discharging and bagging, meeting the demand of medium and small-scale mortar production.
3.2 Special Upgrade for Tropical Monsoon Climate
To cope with Cambodia’s high temperature, high humidity, heavy rainfall and strong wind, the whole machine uses thickened anti-corrosion & rust-proof steel. Key transmission and conveying parts are equipped with sealed moisture-proof treatment. Hopper and feeding port are fitted with anti-caking and anti-blocking devices to avoid material solidification and machine jamming in rainy seasons. Meanwhile, structural reinforcement and anti-vibration design are applied on elevated parts to resist monsoon, prevent vibration and displacement, and ensure stable year-round operation.
3.3 Simplified Intelligent Control System for Local Labor
Equipped with simplified PLC intelligent control system, the operation process is streamlined. Multiple preset formulas for tile adhesive, interior & exterior wall putty, anti-crack mortar and leveling mortar can be switched with one click. The system realizes automatic batching, automatic mixing and quantitative discharging. The HMI interface is user-friendly with bilingual operation instructions (English & Khmer). Operators can master the system after short training, which solves the shortage of skilled technicians in Cambodia. Precise batching control reduces material loss and guarantees consistent quality batch by batch.
3.4 Closed Dust-free Production for Compliance & Cost Saving
The whole line adopts closed production structure, matched with high-efficiency pulse dust collector. No dust overflows during production, improving workshop environment and meeting Cambodia’s current environmental standards for building materials, eliminating risks of production suspension due to environmental inspection. Automated production reduces 2~3 workers compared with traditional lines. Combined with low-loss production design, long-term operation cost is effectively reduced and profit margin is improved.
3.5 One-stop Overseas Project Delivery Service
For overseas projects in Cambodia, we provide full-cycle support: site survey, layout planning and detailed solution design in the early stage; standardized container packing, sea freight and customs coordination during shipment; engineers on-site installation & commissioning, hands-on operation training and mortar formula guidance after arrival. We also provide long-term remote after-sales inspection and fast spare parts supply, eliminating the worries of overseas maintenance and technical support.
4. Project Outcome: Help Client Capture Local Market
After commissioning and formal operation, the production line runs stably with low failure rate, fully adapting to the workshop and climate conditions in Cambodia. The client has achieved all-round upgrading on production efficiency, product quality and market competitiveness, exceeding expectations:
- Higher production capacity to fulfill orders: Automated production completely replaces inefficient manual work. The overall capacity increases by 1.8 times compared with old equipment. Stable mass supply for home improvement and medium-small engineering mortar orders solves the problem of order loss in peak seasons.
- Quality upgrade to get rid of low-price competition: Precise batching and uniform mixing improve bonding strength and anti-crack performance of finished mortar. Product quality outperforms local small workshop products. The client successfully launched self-branded finished mortar, broke away from price wars, and won orders from local mid-tier real estate and municipal supporting projects with better product premium.
- Lower operation & maintenance cost and higher profit: Moisture-proof and anti-blocking design reduces maintenance cost and downtime loss. Automated production cuts labor cost and material waste. The comprehensive operation cost decreases by more than 25%, greatly improving profitability.
- Compliant production and solid foundation for development: Dust-free closed production ensures compliant operation without the risk of shutdown for environmental issues. The standardized workshop also improves the corporate image and supports long-term market expansion.
